The h1b visa is a visa for foreign workers from different qualified professions, among them engineers, scientists, computer scientists etc. The h1b visa is probably the best known temporary work visa. Eligible for this category are persons with an academic degree (or its equivalent). However, strict regulations apply to the issuing of this particular visa category.

1. An American bachelor's or higher academic degree

2. A foreign academic degree that must be determined to be the equivalent to an American bachelor's degree or a higher degree

3. A combination of education, a specialized education and work experience that is determined to be the equivalent to an American bachelor's degree. Usually, it will be necessary to have a completed professional education plus twelve years of work experience.
