Serious plans, serious issues

Yesterday my husband and me went to dinner at an american restaurant, which we chose as a caterer for our wedding in August. Yesterday was our second time at the restaurant and we again loved the food. We had chicken wings, wedges, cheeseburgers, onion rings and fries – exactly the food we want to serve at the wedding. After dinner we sat down with the chef to discuss the catering for August. He was kind of surprised when we told him some details and that the wedding’s theme will be America.

As you may guess by now the next question he asked was why we want America to be the theme and our answer was to tell him about the Greencard win. He reacted kind of shocked and asked us, if we are really sure about this big step and if we are aware of the current job situation in the US. If I wasn’t such a calm person, I could have exploded. I hate it that people always try to point out the bad facts about America for us. As if we hadn’t thought them through, yet. And I also hate it that so many people actually believe that we talk about moving abroad, but will never actually do it!

Many of our friends seem to be surprised when we talk about when we are going to move, where we want to live and how excited we already are. Do those people really think we are kidding? For me moving to another country – to another side of planet earth actually – is not a childish dream, but the most serious thing I have ever planned in my life. And nearly all of those people know that we both have been dreaming about this for a very long time. Why would we throw away the Greencard and the chance we got through it? It kind of hurts me that people don’t take us serious and try to school us about a country they have never lived in themselves. But on the other hand this is a big incentive. Because we will show those people what we are capable of! And that not only idiots dream about a life in the US!
