Hello LA

Monday, May 21st, 2012

We have been living in LA for almost 16 months now. 16 months that on the one hand felt incredibly short, but on the other hand I also feel so home here that it scares me sometimes. In a little more than two months we will move away from LA to live in Long Beach and closer to Flo’s new work. And now it really hits us that we will be leaving a city that we have surprisingly fallen in love with so deeply.

All of you that have been following this blog over the years know that I never wanted to move to LA. I always found this city incredibly busy, unattractive, and never expected it to have so many aspects and little hidden gems. Within the last 14 months we have explored so many beautiful, delicious, and convinient sides of LA that I will miss very much once we moved away. It’s a weird feeling to now be sad to leave a city I never wanted to live in. And I am also very scared to not find all the things we love about living in this big city in the way smaller Long Beach.

But also I am very excited for that move, because since I started dreaming about living in the US I always wanted to live in or near the OC. And what makes me even more excited: Our American Dream has been going so well that after a year we move further down and not back.

1 year American Dream

Friday, February 3rd, 2012

This Tuesday was Flo and my’s one year US anniversary. We went to Eva Longoria’s Restaurant Beso in West Hollywood to celebrate this special occasion! For us this is not only a huge thing, because it’s already been a year. It’s mostly a great anniversary, because the last year overall was just amazing! I hoped for it to be good and for everything to go as we wanted it to. But it actually just went way better than I could have imagined.

We both have good jobs, a cute apartment, awesome new friends, health insurance, a nice car and are in love with LA! We also actually already saved as much money as we spent for the whole move over here. It’s kind of crazy to see how good everything turned out and to know how happy we both are over here! I feel like this was just meant to be!

For sure the last year wasn’t only great. There were hard moments like missing our family and friends, being lonely in a new city, having to deal with building a new life, language barriers and so on. But with a little patience and some strong will we made it through all of this! I am incredibly proud of what we both achieved in the last year. And I am really happy we decided to make this big step!

Dreams are there to be lived! And that is what we did, still do and hopefully will do for many more years! So far I can definitely say: Our personal American Dream did come true!

Wedding Anniversary

Monday, August 29th, 2011

Laguna BeachToday was Flos and my second wedding anniversary. Looking back two years to that point when we just had won the Greencard and decided to get married in a little rush to make this dream come true, made today very special for us. Because today, two years later, we live what we always dreamed of and already achieved so much together in our new home the US.

The weather is amazing right now, so we decided to drive down to Laguna Beach and enjoy the sun. We took a nice walk at the beach, had a late all-american lunch and browsed through a few shops in Laguna. Enjoying little things like just driving to the beach, walking through the cold water with naked feet and just being amazed by California’s beauty made this day very special.

Marriage was just the beginning of our US journey, which we now fully live and enjoy! Saying yes to each other two years ago was also saying yes to our American Dream. And we both don’t regret either of these decisions!
