Christmas Parade

Monday, November 28th, 2011

Christmas ParadeFlo and my day totally did not start Christmas related at all. We got up early to go to Huntington Beach and meet up for a bike ride with one of our friends. The weather today was amazing, it was hot but a little windy and we rode our bikes all the way down to Newport Beach. After a little stroll around the Newport Beach Pier area we went back to Huntington to have Sushi.

Flo and I headed back to Los Angeles around 5 pm and didn’t really plan to do anything but relax on the sofa. But when we left the Highway in West Hollywood we noticed that something huge must be going on. After driving along as ton of closed streets we googled if there was an event on the Hollywood Boulevard and found out that they were having the 80th annual Christmas Parade. We parked our car, got Flo’s camera and walked to the Walk of Fame. We came just in time for the parade and hung out there for about 3 hours. The parade is pretty big and they featured everything from Highschool Marching Bands to huge blown-up figurines. We also had a good view on some celebrities like Sean Kingston or the Beethoven movie dog.

Flo took a ton of pictures, so I will stop talking/writing now to let you enjoy the Holiday spirit he caught on camera!

Home Sweet Home

Sunday, July 10th, 2011

Home Sweet HomeWe went to the Rose Bowl Flea Market with my co-worker Lena today. It was a nice, hot day and we decided to go to the market kind of last minute. If you haven’t heard about it before: The Rose Bowl Flea Market takes place on the second Sunday evevry month and is a huge Market located around the Rose Bowl Stadium. It’s an amazing place for vintage fashion and furniture shopping and if you want to you can spend a ton of money there!

The Flea Market was a nice end to a nice weekend for us. Yesterday we spend a little time at the pool downstairs and afterwards drove down to Huntington Beach to meet with our friend Scott. We had a nice late lunch and took a little bike trip down at the beach afterwards. Flo had a little hard time this week, because he missed his friends back home, so it was nice to get out of the house and spend some time with lovely Americans. As I told you before for us living here becomes more and more normal and we feel so much more comfortable with handling the new language and the new people surrounding us.

I found an old picture today at the Flea Market with the words “Home Sweet Home” on it. It caught my eye and only cost $1, so I decided this needed to hang in our apartment. The seller asked me, if we had a Home Sweet Home and I said yes immediately. Because that actually is what it feels right now to us. We love living here, we have a beautiful home and we slowly begin to have a real social life. Patience pays off in the end I guess! Not only while wandering around on a Flea Market, but also in Life!

My beautiful California

Monday, June 20th, 2011

dolphinsWe took total advantage of the beautiful state we life in this weekend. The first reason for that was my parents being in town. The second was that I needed to get back in the sun so bad. I haven’t seen a lot of sun lately, because I’ve been sick and the weather hadn’t been at it’s best behaviour lately.

So this weekend we decided to get out and enjoy the weather and beautiful California. I bought myself a bike this week, so our plan for Saturday was doing a little bike tour down at the beach. We rented bikes for my parents and rode them from Huntington Beach to Newport Beach. The weather was amazing, the beach was crowded but super nice and we strolled through Huntington a bit after our bike ride.

Today we had some bigger plans. We had bought Whale Watching tickets for this Sunday and so drove all the way down to Dana Point to watch some sealife live! We made a little stop in Laguna first and showed my parents our secret spot in the Laguna Hills, which offers you an amazing view down to the coast. Afterwards we drove to Dana Point, got on the cruise ship and spend a good two hours out on the sea. We sadly didn’t get to see any whales, but hundreds of dolphins that put on quite a show for our ship which made the trip more than worth the money!

It always amazes me like hell to discover the beauty of California all over again and I already have thousands of activities planned for this summer!
