1 year American Dream

Friday, February 3rd, 2012

This Tuesday was Flo and my’s one year US anniversary. We went to Eva Longoria’s Restaurant Beso in West Hollywood to celebrate this special occasion! For us this is not only a huge thing, because it’s already been a year. It’s mostly a great anniversary, because the last year overall was just amazing! I hoped for it to be good and for everything to go as we wanted it to. But it actually just went way better than I could have imagined.

We both have good jobs, a cute apartment, awesome new friends, health insurance, a nice car and are in love with LA! We also actually already saved as much money as we spent for the whole move over here. It’s kind of crazy to see how good everything turned out and to know how happy we both are over here! I feel like this was just meant to be!

For sure the last year wasn’t only great. There were hard moments like missing our family and friends, being lonely in a new city, having to deal with building a new life, language barriers and so on. But with a little patience and some strong will we made it through all of this! I am incredibly proud of what we both achieved in the last year. And I am really happy we decided to make this big step!

Dreams are there to be lived! And that is what we did, still do and hopefully will do for many more years! So far I can definitely say: Our personal American Dream did come true!

Summer in LA

Bildschirmfoto 2012-01-26 um 23.50.04After about two weeks of colder weather, an early summer hit Los Angeles. This week we had unbelievably 80 degrees and I totally love it! All my colleagues are complaining about the winter already being over and not being able to wear their winter clothes. But I couldn’t be more happy about having this type of weather.

Since we moved to Los Angeles I have this weird urge to go out all the time and do a lot of stuff. I was kind of lazy back in Germany, but over here I always feel like I should take advantage of the awesome weather! This weekend we are hopefully gonna have some time to drive down to the beach. Even if I have not been there for only about three weeks, I so miss walking in the sand barefoot.

People who have known me my whole life, might find this super weird: But over here I totally grow to be a summer person. In Germany I never cared for the sun being out and never bothered going to a lake or to the park to sunbath. But over here I can’t get enough of the sun!

Besides the summer we also have another great thing going on over here right now: We are having the most beautiful sunsets! I can gladly see them from my window at work. And I think the sunsets in Downtown are amazingly beautiful!

Merry Christmas

Sunday, December 25th, 2011

Today is christmas day in our new home. In our old home – where we spent the last two weeks – christmas eve was yesterday! Flo and I celebrated together with both our familys and had a wonderful time with a lovely dinner. Flo and I gave each other the trip to Germany for christmas. The trip was supposed to be a bit more relaxing, but we still had a great time with our family and friends.

Tomorrow – just in time for the end of christmas – Flo and I are gonna go home. Home now means going to Los Angeles for us. And yes, we already miss it like hell! This week I showed my dad some of the photos we took during the last year and really got homesick. Even if we only spent 11 months in the US so far, we both think that the decision to move there was the best we could make! A friend lately asked us, if we regret moving to Los Angeles sometimes. And we both honestly and without thinking too long said that we havent regreted it once so far!

Moving is not for everyone. Especially because you leave so many friends and your family behind. But for Flo and me it means the world to have the chance to live in Los Angeles. To be happy there and to have a second home!

I hope everyone had a great christmas, that you spent it with all the people you love and that you can start the new year happy and with a lot of dreams to fullfil!
