Weekend Getaway

Friday, March 25th, 2011

Not having many Paid Days Off work might be a bad thing about California or the US in general. But a good thing is that you can easily go on a great weekend getaway due to California’s wonderful landscape! It’s been Flo’s Birthday yesterday and because our last weekends have been a bit hectic and stressful I decided to invite him to a weekend stay at the Madonna Inn hotel in San Luis Obispo.

The Madonna Inn is a really famous hotel, mostly known for being a honeymoon hotspot. The hotel has a bit more than 100 rooms, which are all styled with different themes. You might wanna check out their website (www.madonnainn.com) to see how awesome that place looks. But not only the hotel is nice, but also it’s surrounding. San Luis Obispo is a small town, but the landscape is beautiful and if you like hiking, it’s a wonderful destination for you.

So, we will hop in our new car tomorrow morning, take a three hour drive to San Luis Obispo and than hopefully just relax! You might wonder why we wanna drive three hours just to see a great hotel. But after only two months over here I can tell you that 3 hours isn’t much. When living in Los Angeles you really have to get used to long hours in the car very fast, because the traffic over here is ridiculous. And three hours really sound like a reasonable time for me, when I get an awesome hotel, the best steak in the world (check out the hotel’s restaurant) and a romantic weekend with my husband in exchange!

Outtakes – California Edition

Sunday, May 16th, 2010

DSC_0004As I predicted before our holiday, we already had a lot language outtakes in the first week we spend here in California. Here are our three most hilarious Outtake moments:

1. This week we went into a cute diner in Huntington Beach and got served by a mexican waiter. Our english may be pretty good, but we couldn’t understand that guy with the thick accent at all! We somehow made it through ordering drinks and food, but eventually the moment came, where he wanted to bring us the cheque. Flo went to the restroom, so I was alone with the waiter. What I now know is that he wanted to ask me, if I wanted a dessert. What I understood was, if I wanted the cheque. So I kept saying yes like an idiot, while he asked again and again, if I already chose a dessert. I was so embarrassed, that I ended up buying an ice-cream sundae just for the sake of it.

2. The next outtake happened again to me at the Madonna Inn Hotel in San Luis Obispo. They have a “world famous” men’s urinal there, where you pee in a waterfall. I didn’t know that, but when we paid the waitress asked me, if my husband already checked out the men’s toilet. I actually had asked the same girl, where the restrooms were a few minutes earlier, so I thought she asked, if I had found the restrooms. So I said yes! She looked kind of confused and told me my husband should check them out, too. Only later that night I realized that I told her, that I had been in the men’s restroom!

3. This one is my favourite outtake of all time. Not only because it happened to my husband for a change, but because it is hilarious. For a start you should know that I always try to lose a bit weight. Not because I really have to, but because I am afraid that I will gain weight and not fit in my wedding dress in August. So we were in the car a few days ago and over here they always air an ad about a lap band. We heard that a lot in the last week, but I guess my husband paid attention to it for the first time. The girl in the ad talked about her experiences with the lap band and how she lost weight. The weight loss thing must have triggered something off in my hubby’s mind, because he turned to me and seriously asked “Do you want a lap band, too, babe?”

To be continued…

Outtakes – Holiday Edition Part 1

iStock_000004505399XSmallMy husband and me are damn good at providing new content for the Outtakes section. For obvious reasons I am not willing to write about every Outtake we manage to make happen, but the next ones are to cute and stupid to not write about.

The last few weeks we were busy booking flights and hotels and managing our route for our upcoming trip to California. Last week I asked Flo to fill out the ESTA forms for our trip. I was in the other room when he suddenly yelled “Wow, they alreday charge you 50 bugs per person for it”. I was kind of shocked by this and told him not to fill out the form before asking someone about it. He promptly typed a message into the American Dream Greencard winner forum to ask the other winners about it. Like five minutes later he got his answer via Google: The ESTA forms who already charge you money are fake! We were kind of relieved. But when we read the answer another winner posted for us, we felt embarrassed. Because as every winner but us knows: You don’t have to fill out the ESTA form anymore when you have a Greencard visa.

The other Outtake happened only a few days later. After one day in San Francisco, the second stop of our trip will be San Luis Obispo and the Madonna Inn hotel. Since I saw the hotel on TV a few years ago, I made it my big goal to pay it a visit one day. Flo booked the hotel without telling me as a belated birthday present. But when he told me about the dates he booked later that evening, I wasn’t only surprised in a positive way. We had already booked a hotel in Huntington Beach a few weeks ago and Flo kind of double-booked rooms for us. One in San Luis Obispo and one in Huntington Beach. The staff at the Madonna Inn was very helpful, so after 5 E-Mails Flo finally managed to book us a room for the right dates! I guess those guys will recognize the strange Germans first hand when we arrive!

I named this article “Outtakes – Holiday Edition Part 1″, because I am pretty sure that in the two weeks in America a lot of Outtakes will cross our way. So, stay tuned! And enjoy your laugh…
