Oh right, I live in Los Angeles!

Wednesday, July 6th, 2011

LA SkylineBelieve it or not, every now and then (probably more often) I actually forget that I live in LA. It sounds crazy, because this is a huge, famous and amazing city, but while living here you kind of forget where you are. You work, eat, meet or hang out – the same way you would do in every other city. And that’s what makes you forget to really cherish the city and the opportunity to live here.

I have these moments, when it really hits me that I am in LA now. On Friday we went to a concert. And when the singer greated the crowd with the words “Hello, Los Angeles”, I felt like “hell yeah, I freaking live in Los Angeles”. I don’t know why it feels so normal to me to live here. Maybe because I never really wanted to live in LA. Maybe, because LA has treated us so good. Or maybe just, because I just feel home.

I know that this city is not for everyone. And that living here can be hard, expensive and frustrating. But right now: I love living in LA. And I begin to like the idea of staying here rather than moving to the OC. It’s strange to say this of a city I sometimes don’t even pay enough attention to. But maybe it is exactly because of that! I feel home in LA. I love LA. And I definitely need to be more thankful for that!

Our first week in LA

Thursday, February 3rd, 2011

Los AngelesI actually wanted to write this post way earlier this week, but I have been to tired and overwhelmed to do it. As you may already know we arrived in LA at around noon on Monday. It took us some time to make our way through the airport. Not because we had problems with immigration or anything, but because we sat at the end of our huge plane and had about six handbags to collect after we finally got out of the plane. The immigration officer was – again – totally easy on us and just asked where we lived know and said welcome. I was actually worried about the loads of luggage we carried with us, but customs did not even care.

LA greated us with bright sunshine and we felt so good to finally arrive in the city we now call our home. After a little drive we arrived at the place where we will stay for the next two months which is located in the heart of West Hollywood. We always wanted to move to Orange County, but after two days here in LA I totally fell in love and wanna stay for at least a few months.

Today we went for a little hike in Runyon Canyon and were again amazed by how beautiful it is over here! It is funny that we came over here just in time for Valentine’s Day, because it is the right time of year to fall in love!

Lucky number 31

Sunday, December 26th, 2010

calendarSo, Flo and I gave ourselves the biggest christmas present this year with finally booking our flights yesterday. I told you that we wanted to leave Germany for good on January 29. We had to change that plan due to multiple reasons and will now board a plane to Los Angeles on January 31.

Just when I began writing this post, I realized that 31 seems to be our lucky number for next year. Flo will turn 31 in March, we will leave Germany on January 31 and set foot in our new home country on January 31. Maybe some other things will happen regarding that number, but that still lies in the future and in fate’s hands.

Not only did we book our flight this week, we also decided on a place to live in for the first two months. We found a really charming guest house online and after sleeping on it for one night decided to book it. The guest house is in the middle of West Hollywood, which is pretty cool for a start I think. As you may know Flo and I always wanted to move to Orange County real quick after our arrival in Los Angeles. But we kind of get used to the idea of maybe living in Los Angeles right now.

Thinking about next year still feels crazy. So much lies ahead of us! So many exiting things will happen! But for now I try to deal with everything day by day. And this means working till Thursday for both Flo and me next week and fly to London for a extended New Year’s weekend with my BFF Petra and her boyfriend than.

I hope all of you had a wonderful christmas and will have a wonderful last week of 2010!
