Fallen head over heels for english lyrics!

To understand this article, you need some extra information first. I am a little music addict and even more than I love music I adore good lyrics. My friends often laugh at me for quoting my favorite lyrics or judging songs by the topic they are about! And yes I admit it, this addiction does not only bring me a lot joy, it also gets me into trouble sometimes!
Our big wedding party in August comes nearer day by day and we still have a lot to plan and organize. The thing that makes me worry the most is the music. We do have a good DJ that will help us at the party itself, but still we are the ones who select the music. And for me this is one of the hardest decisions of my life. Especially when it comes to choosing the song I want to be played when I walk down the aisle, the song we will do our first dance to and the song that will open the dancefloor to everyone.
There are so many beautiful songs out there, but did you ever pay attention to what they are about? Last year I worked at a wedding, where they played Kelly Clarkson’s “Because of you” at the big romantic firework. Hello? This song is about struggling with people who once broke your heart and the consequences of this! At my colleagues wedding two years ago the first song played at the reception was “Take a Bow” by Rihanna. Again this song is about being cheated on by a huge liar! No offense, guys, but is this because you are germans and don’t understand the lyrics or because you just don’t care? Would you also chose a german song about cheating for your wedding?
I would actually love to only have songs that are about love and happy relationships at our wedding – even if anybody else will notice! But perhaps what now brings me in trouble and long discussions a lot, will help me once I live in the United Stated. Because it wouldn’t be cool to choose a song like “F***” by Archive for a new friends singing birthday card, right? Even if the song sounds good!
This week I worked at the finale of german casting show Popstars and saw Rihanna during rehearsal. When I went into the catering room to get myself a coffee I met one of Rihanna’s advisors who was asking a waiter to heat up an instant meal for Rihanna. I took a quick look and recognized the package as an american one, which Rihanna must have brought with her for that occasion. I immediately started to wonder, if I would do the same thing and noticed that I actually will be in her position very soon. No, I am not dreaming about a career as a popstar. I mean the being away from home thing.
