Super Bowl

Super BowlToday was our second Super Bowl Sunday as US residents, but our first Super Bowl Sunday that we attended a party on. A friend of ours throw a little Houseparty, which turned out to be more of a come together to eat and drink party. I was pleasantly surprised that none of the people in attendence had either a better understanding or more interest in the sport than we do. It was nice to be able to speak through the whole game, because I honsetly have to say that Football bores me a lot (mostly because I don’t understand the rules).

Because the party was mostly about food, we decided to bring something a little special. I had bought a food magazine with a Super Bowl special in it a few weeks ago and fast found my thing to bring! We made a cheesecake aka Nacho Platter, which is a cheescake with decor that makes it look more than a Nacho dish. It was super easy to make and everyone loved the look and the taste. So food wise we were probably the winner of our first Super Bowl party. Which is kind of funny, because due to the lack of interest for this sport we have, this might be the last one we will attend.

iStock_000003558712XSmallIf I hadn’t got a job, for which I have to get up at 6 am every morning, I would definitely watch the Super Bowl this year. I tried to stay awake for it two years ago, but I just couldn’t make it, because it airs here in the middle of the night. I guess I won’t make it again this year, which makes me more and more curious for my first Super Bowl Sunday in America. I only know it from TV series, but the way they present it there is gorgeous.

I love the idea of cooking tons of great food, get together with friends and family (not in our case) and spend a whole Sunday together indulged in this american tradition. The Super Bowl is America’s most watched TV event nearly each year. And I guess American Football is America’s favourite team sport. The only Football match I saw live was in Australia. Even if I didn’t really get the rules, it totally attracted me.

I am normally not attracted to team sports. I prefer sports like Skateboarding, BMX or Freestyle Motocross. Especially because of the way our biggest team sport soccer is presented here in Germany. I worked for a youth sports magazine some years ago and the only sport that tickles my interest actually was American Football. But it is no big thing over here and I guess here are not many people who follow the Super Bowl live.

The only sports event coming close to the Super Bowl over here is the soccer World Championship, which only takes place every forth year. I am not a big soccer fan and even if nearly every german seems to go crazy over the World Championship, I don’t. My girlfriends always try to make me come with them to watch the games of both the World and the European Soccer Championship, but it kind of leaves me cold. I am kind of glad that I have another year before my first real Super Bowl experience. I will use the time to understand the rules and get to know the teams and then I will be a typical American girl going crazy over the hot players and their skills at the biggest sports event of the year!
