Relatives/Spouses of U.S. citizens

Generally, U.S. immigration law differentiates between two categories of family-based immigration visas:

Immediate relatives of U.S. citizens MORE

  • Spouses
  • Unmarried children under 21
  • Parents of U.S. citizens (provided the child is older than 21)

Other close family members of U.S. citizens MORE

  • Unmarried children over 21 (First Preference)
  • Married children over 21 (Third Preference)
  • Brother or sister (Fourth Preference)

PLEASE NOTE:
Other relatives of U.S. citizens such as grandparents, uncle, aunt etc. cannot be sponsored and thus do not qualify for family-based immigration.
